Welcome to Central's National Honor Society (NHS)
What is the National Honor Society?
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nation-wide organization founded in 1921 "to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and the encourage the development of character in our nation's secondary schools." Today, NHS is considered the nation's premier organization in recognizing outstanding students who demonstrate excellence in these areas and is one of the highest honors a high school student can achieve. Additionally, from its inception, this organization has promoted "high school academic standards, (..) the continuation of democracy, and (...) the betterment of the individual and the school."

Sanctioned Event
- Fulfills a need for the school or community
- Planned and implemented by a member of the NHS promoting leadership
- Incorporate community partners and promote cooperation among NHS members and community partners
- Encourages all those within NHS and outside NHS to participate
- The individual(s) who is organizing the event will fill out the necessary pre- and post- paperwork to be given to the NHS advisors
Must have TWO sanctioned events each year of NHS membership.
The three NHS Blood Drives and volunteering at Rotary Lights are recurring sanctioned events organized by the NHS advisors.
All other sanctioned events are organized and run by members with NHS advisor approval
Individual Service
- Planned by another school organization or an adult in the community
- Service hours must benefit the school or community or an individual in need
- Service hours are not to benefit any political party over another
- Service hours cannot be used for person(s) or organizations that are for profit
- In the event the member volunteers for an individual or organization outside the school the activity should not benefit the member’s family directly and the adult signature should be from the adult directly supervising the member’s activities
Must have 20 hours of service each year of NHS membership.
